In this memoir, Martina Anderson takes readers through her life as a youngster growing up in the Bogside and the challenges that she, her family and her community faced. She tells the story of her life as a republican activist and of the resistance and resilience shown by individuals, families and communities through some of the darkest times in both
her own life and the history of our country.

She reflects on the comradeship, solidarity and determination shared by political prisoners as they battled prison conditions in England, Armagh and the H-Blocks.

She recounts her life as an elected representative - a journey that took her from the Bogside to Brussels and beyond. She lays bare the pain and anguish that accompanied some of the personal decisions she made, while remaining clear about the convictions and rationale behind them.

This is a book about courage and conviction, about struggle and sacrifice, about hope and love.
