Vision

After nearly a decade of neglect which saw the building at risk of demolition, An Gaeláras, purchased the church and neighbouring manse and set about exploring ways to preserve the buildings and bring them back into use.

The manse was assessed to be in worse condition than the church and so it was the first of the buildings to be restored. This building now houses a flagship music academy (Acadamh Ceoil Chaoimhín Úi Dhochartaigh) which provides traditional music classes in a wide range of disciplines to all sections of the community.

Coming into its own during the City of Culture, the church has become one of the most iconic music and performance venues in the city and original features add to the unique atmosphere, such as the mahogany balcony, beautiful stained glass windows, and decorative plaster mouldings. However, it is in need of major restoration.

An Gaeláras are committed to the restoration of the building and bringing it back into use as a landmark Arts and Cultural centre which will be fully accessible to all. This stunning heritage building will become a hub for the Arts, music, heritage and shared cultural experiences. With multi-use spaces which will cater for a wide variety of performances, exhibitions and education, the building will also be made available for private hire.
